Conference Venue

The conference will take place at the University of Aveiro Campus ("Campus Universitário"). The conference room is located in the Department of Mechanical Engeneering. You can find detailed maps of the University of Aveiro campus here and here (the Mechanical Engeneering department is number 22 in the latter map).

The University campus is at walking distance from the city center (about 10-15 minutes). A detailed map of Aveiro can be found here.

The conference room has 120 seats, and all necessary projection equipment. We will ask the participants with oral presentations to provide us with the file of their presentation (PowerPoint or PDF) before the session of their talk. To avoid time losses, we prefer if the presentations are done using the conference laptop. If you have any particular need please contact the LOC.

Traveling Information

Aveiro is a nice small town on the Atlantic coast at about 80 Km from Porto and 220 from Lisbon, with easy access from both towns. All trains going between Porto and Lisbon (leaving every hour) stop there, and there are frequent regional trains from Porto main station to Aveiro. A Map of Aveiro with its location in Portugal and Europe can be found here.

From Oporto Airport To Aveiro

Oporto (Porto) has two main train stations ("São Bento" and "Campanhã"). "São Bento" is located in the city center (near "Avenida dos Aliados"). All trains leaving "São Bento" to Aveiro stop at "Campanhã".

Probably the easiest way to get from the airport to the main railway stations is to take the Subway (line E, violet). You can find more details and information in english in the above link. The Subway will take you to the "Campanhã" trains station, where you can take one train to Aveiro (see below).

At Oporto Airport you can also take a taxi to the main railway stations "São Bento" or "Campanhã". The taxi fare is about 15 euro. Busses Nr. 601 (faster) and 87 also go to the "São Bento" station; the last stop of these busses ir "Cordoaria", five minutes walk to "Av. dos Aliados" and "São Bento" train station.

Another possibility to go from the airport to the train station is the airport shuttle (AeroBus, leaves every 30 minutes), which connects the airport with various hotels in Oporto (~4 EUR, passengers of TAP can use it free of charge) with stops in "Boavista" and "Avenida dos Aliados". To continue to Aveiro directly we suggest to leave the bus at "Aliados" and take a local train "Suburbano" from "São Bento" to Aveiro (ticket about 2 Euro).

There are different types of trains going to Aveiro, cheap local trains ("Suburbanos" and "Regionais"), which depart every hour or so and need one hour to arrive in Aveiro, and more expensive fast trains ("Alfas" or "Intercidades" (IC); price ~10 euro).

Timetables for all trains in Portugal are available at http://www.cp.pt

From Lisbon Airport To Aveiro

If you arrive at Lisbon Airport you can take a taxi to the train station "Gare do Oriente" and from there a train to Aveiro. The fastest (and recommended) trains are the "Intercidades" and "Alfa" services with fares of about 15-25 Euro (see timetables at http://www.cp.pt). Note that there are several train stations in Lisbon. You should take your train at "Lisboa - Oriente" (closer to the airport) or at "Lisboa - Santa Apolonia" (closer to downtown). The journey to Aveiro takes between 2h00min ("Alfa") and 2:45h ("Intercidades"). Due to the excellent train connections to Aveiro you can avoid long waiting times at Lisbon.

Note

We are preparing a bus service from Oporto Airport to Aveiro on Sunday the 10th. Following the information sent by the participants, we have decided to have one bus leaving the Airport at 16:30 and another at 21:30. Both buses will also stop at the "Campanhã" train station (15-30 minutes later). Remember that in September Portugal is in GMT+1 time (1h less than Central European time).

If you are interested in this bus service please send us an e-mail with your arrival time and flight number.

If none of these buses fits into your arrival time, we strongly suggest that you take the subway from the Airport to the "Campanhã" train station and from there pick a train to Aveiro. This solution should be both fast and easy.

Please do not hesitate to contact the local organization committee at psa2006@oal.ul.pt if you feel that you would need some special support concerning your arrival.
